After surveying 6000 companies interested in moving aspects of their IT infrastructure to Cloud-based equivalents, Microsoft has announced that most SMEs have markedly “immature” set ups.
In the survey, technologies and policies surrounding security architecture, resiliency, operations management, and risk management were all found to be lagging behind best practices, leaving SMEs vulnerable to data breaches as well as missing out on the benefits of newer software platforms.
Faced with this knowledge, companies have a stark choice – invest heavily in IT infrastructure to bring systems up to scratch, or look for an alternative. However, as the Microsoft survey deduced, many of these businesses could take shortcuts to compliance using Cloud technologies.
Adopting Cloud technologies allows businesses to gain access to cutting edge technologies without requiring costly on-premise installs. In addition, Cloud subscription services only charge for what a business uses, providing a cost-effective way to re-instate IT systems that are in line with industry best practices.
