Computing and IT have historically been seen as male dominated professions, with women only accounting for around 20% of the workforce. However, figures released in 2010 show that attitudes are slowly changing and more women are taking up roles in IT, helping to redress the gender imbalance of the workforce.
Although new family-friendly legislation, such as the right to request flexible working hours, has made it easier for women to raise families and maintain a career, there is more to the story. Technology has made it possible to work flexibly in a way that legislation alone cannot.
One of the key technological advances in this area has been the Cloud. Hosted desktops and hosted apps have allowed women (and men!) to complete their work whenever and wherever they choose, making flexible schedules a reality. Employers can be satisfied knowing that their staff are “getting the job done”, even if they are not physically present in the office, and employees know that they can fit their home lives around their work life and vice versa, using the tools provided to balance both.
As a result, there are now more women working in IT than ever before. The flexible working practices facilitated by the Cloud are also available to any business. Why not call Broadband Cloud Solutions on 0141 585 6363 to see how we can help make your workforce more flexible?
