During a webinar held last week, Gartner research vice president Earl Perkins identified his top three IT security concerns for the coming year. Cloud computing, social media and employees bringing their own computing devices to work were named as the issues most likely to cause problems for business owners.
Specifically Perkins suggests that it is at the point at which these issues intersect, the employee, where the greatest challenges and best chance of resolving them lies. By focusing security efforts on the employee, businesses stand a far better chance of keeping their data secure.
Although training employees and helping them understand security issues is not easy, Cloud services can help relieve some of the burden. By outsourcing file storage, for instance, your Cloud provider can become responsible for keeping the data secure.
Hosted file services also provide a single point of contact for employees accessing their data, regardless of the device they are using (either their own or one supplied by the company). Consequently, access permissions and rights need only be set in one place, further reducing the amount of IT administration required to keep you company up-and-running and safe from security breaches.
