Ideally your perfect website address would consist of a domain name that matches that of your business (Mybusiness.com). Unfortunately this may not always be possible because it has already been purchased.
So what can you do? Here are some tools that will help you identify a relevant alternative that can help your business succeed on the web.
Company Name Generator
If you are starting out from scratch and don’t even have a company name yet, Company Name Generator may be able to assist. Simply click the ‘Generate’ button until you find something you like. You can even adjust the number of vowels and consonants used, or the order in which they appear. Just be warned that many of the names created are complete nonsense!
Bust A Name
Bust A Name allows you to add keywords that are relevant to your business, and then searches for available combinations based on them. A bakery may use keywords such as ‘baker’, ‘bread’ and ‘loaf’ for instance – the site then recommends ‘bakerloaf.com’ and ‘loafbaker.com’. You will need to keep adding keywords until the generator find a suitable match.
EuroDNS
Ideally your website should have a domain name that is either non-geographic (.com or .net for instance), or is geographically relevant (.co.uk). However if none of these are available you could consider a ‘foreign’ domain alternative. EuroDNS allows you to search over 350 top level domains at once to find a suitable address. Even if you decide not to register a foreign domain name, this tool may still provide some useful alternatives for consideration.
